Sunrise Day Camp, for children ages 3-16, is the only dedicated day camp in the nation for children with cancer. It is a camp designed to meet the emotional, social, recreational and physical needs of these children while allowing them to enjoy the comforts and safety of their own homes at night. Sunrise Day Camp is operated by the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC and is situated on the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, a 300-acre wooded site that borders Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island in New York. Best of all, Sunrise Day Camp is offered free of charge to all children being treated for cancer or related disorders on a non-sectarian basis.

In addition to our wonderful summer camp, we offer a wide variety of programs all year long, as well as many special fundraising and social events such as our annual Walk to Help the Sun Rise and many others.

Enrollment

Who can enroll?
SUNRISE DAY CAMP is open to children ages 3 to 16, who are in active or follow-up treatment for cancer. The camp is open to all children, on a non-sectarian basis, who are coping with any type of cancer at any stage, provided their doctor clears them to participate.

What about siblings?
Siblings of children with cancer have their own special needs, and so the Friedberg JCC is happy to include siblings in Sunrise Day Camp. Yet we also recognize that each child is unique. As such, the Friedberg JCC also offers 7 other camp programs, including theater, travel, arts, general camping, etc. and also has relationships with some of the finest sleep-away camps. Working with the family and the sibling - and with Sunrise being one of the options - we will find the best fit for every sibling who wants to go to camp.
