For the past eight years the yacht clubs of Carlyle Lake in conjunction with the Gateway Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma society have been hosting an open regatta to raise funds for the society. To date we have raised over $350,000. We hope you can join us this year for the fun, for the sailing and for the many patients and family members affected by blood related cancers.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society was established in 1949 as The de Villiers Foundation. In 2000, the Society changed its name from The Leukemia Society of America to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to emphasize its commitment to fighting all blood cancers. Today, the Society supports the following major programs: research, patient services, public and professional education, advocacy and community services. This is an ambitious task and we need your help!
It's about sailing - It's about camaraderie - It's about making a difference

The Leukemia Cup Regatta (LCR) encompasses a variety of activities to raise awareness of the event. Check them out below:

Registration

Register early by May 1 to ensure you get your boat name silk-screened on the Regatta t-shirt. In addition, you will receive a free t-shirt and a skipper's bag with goodies enclosed. And, of course this is your ticket to one of the best events of the year on Carlyle Lake - even if you don't race, its a great party.

Regatta Kickoff - April 17

Join us for an exciting evening with Tania Aebi at the Top of the Met - the event space for Kemol's restaurant that we used last year. Ms. Aebi is the author of Maiden Voyage, her autobiographical account of her solo voyage around the world.

West Marine Fleet Day - April 19th

The West Marine stores support the Society in many different ways. One of them is to help foster registrations by offering a Fleet Day where they offer generous discounts on a Sunday afternoon. The first Fleet Day was held on Sunday, March 1, 2009. The second is scheduled for Sunday, April 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Manchester store (13840 Manchester Road).. Get 15% off non-sail items and 5% off electronics. Refreshments provided by the manager, Connor Greulich. Snacks by Felicia Bamer.

Regatta Weekend - May 22-24

On-site registration starts on the 22nd followed by a Happy Hour sponsored by Carlyle Yacht Club. Saturday begins with a hearty breakfast and continued registration. Racing starts after the opening cermonies. After the boats return to the harbor, we have some fun with chuck a duck followed by dinner and entertainment - live music and complimentary Mount Gay rum and Pabst beer. Sunday concludes the racing followed by the presentation of awards.
