Hematology/Oncology Services

The hematology/oncology specialists provide consultation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with various blood disorders or cancer. Disorders that are treated include breast, lung, head and neck and genitourinary cancers; coagulation disorders; lymphoma; leukemia; myeloma and melanoma.
Specialty Services
Bone Marrow Transplantation Program
This program, the largest bone marrow transplant program in Illinois, provides transplantation of bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells and umbilical cord blood to patients with cancer.

Breast Care
This center is notable for the unmatched expertise of its specialists and for its one-visit, multidisciplinary team approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Thoracic Oncology Clinic (Lung Cancer)
A multidisciplinary team provides consultation and evaluation of lung cancer; lung, pleural or mediastinal masses; mesothelioma; heart or pericardial cancers; tracheal cancers; chest wall cancers; and cancers of the diaphragm.
Research
As a member institution of the Southwest Oncology Group, a national consortium sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, the division offers patients with cancer a wide range of clinical treatment protocols for cancer, such as new anticancer drugs, that usually are unavailable to patients. Several laboratories in cellular immunology, molecular pharmacology and molecular biology provide basic science support for the clinical program.
