Hematology Program

The Hematology Program is part of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Hematology is the study of disorders of the blood and blood-forming tissues. Hematologists are physicians who treat a wide array of malignant (or cancerous) disorders - such as leukemia, multiple myeloma, Hodgkin's Disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma - and benign (or non-cancerous) illnesses - such as anemia, coagulation disorders and various blood cell anomalies.

Our care team uses state-of-the-art treatments and comprehensive supportive services to provide the best care possible for those suffering from hematologic disorders. Our attending physicians work closely with advanced nurse practitioners, and clinical and research nurses. You will have access to Lombardi's social workers, nutritional counselors, pastoral care team, and palliative care team to provide for all aspects of your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
Clinical Research

The clinical research mission of the Lombardi Hematology Program is to develop new and better therapies for patients. We offer our patients a wide array of opportunities to participate in clinical research studies relating to hematologic disorders. The future of hematology at Lombardi will be exciting. Researchers are developing many new, promising therapies. Because Lombardi is part of an academic medical center dedicated to excellent patient care and research, we will continue to expand our hematology activities and our faculty. This will give us the opportunity to 'push the envelope' with innovative approaches to the care of benign and malignant hematologic diseases.
