Our Mission

* Our mission is three-fold. Our first, and primary, goal is to provide excellence in patient care. This means providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care, individualized to each patient and their family. We also strive to deliver this care in a compassionate, supportive environment that not only allows the family to deal with an illness and heal from it, but also grow from it, and realize strength and potential they may not have known they had.

* Our second mission is to be sure that this high standard in care is passed on to the next generation of caregivers. We are in association with Brown Medical School and are actively involved in the training of medical students and pediatric residents. We also have our own fellowship program, one of only 47 in the nation to train specialists in pediatric hematology/oncology.

* Our third mission is to advance the knowledge of disease. We are actively involved in research for better understanding, management and cures of diseases, both for childhood cancer and blood disorders. All the attending physicians are members in the Children’s Oncology Group, which is the national group involved in searching for a cure for cancer, one child at a time. Individual faculty hold leadership positions in this group, which designs cancer treatments for children throughout the country. Special programs exist for children with leukemia, brain tumors, lymphomas, solid tumors, hemophilia and sickle cell disease. In addition, we have a program designed specifically to provide care and to increase understanding of the issues that are faced by survivors of childhood cancer (Champs Program).
