To reach for the sky, it helps to be outside.

For Arkansas’ children with disabilites, youth and senior adults, Camp Aldersgate is the only place to really get to know the great outdoors with the latest facilities and as few barriers as possible.

We offer camps for children and youth who have conditions such as cancer, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, epilepsy, kidney disorders, autism, Down's syndrome, and mental retardation. Hundreds of campers come each year from across Arkansas and from surrounding states to enjoy an experience of a lifetime.

Camps and Programs

Summer Medical Camps
Come be a Caddo or a Quapaw and experience a week of camp and fun!

Camp Aldersgate summer medical camps serve children with disabilities, developmental delays and a diverse range of medical conditions including autism, cardiac conditions, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, arthritis, cancer, epilepsy, asthma, kidney disorders, and diabetes. Camp Aldersgate provides the site, the staff, the program design and funding. The program works in partnership with local health agencies who recruit the campers, provide training, and partial funding. It also works with the organization, Med Camps of Arkansas, Inc., who provides the volunteer physicians and partial funding.

This partnership has worked since 1971 to provide camping to more than 8,000 campers. A typical week of camp includes an adapted ropes challenge course, archery, arts and crafts, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing/boating, swimming, and for the older campers, an introduction to SCUBA diving.

Respite Care
Come camp with us and meet new friends!

Throughout the year, Camp Aldersgate hosts weekend camps for children with disabilities. Funded in part by the Arkansas Department of Human Services and United Way, this program provides families of children with disabilities a rest, or "respite," from the demands of care giving while the camper enjoys social interaction and fun activities at the camp.

Kota Camps
A camp program for campers with disabilities, their brothers, sisters and friends!

These camps are named for the Quapaw Native American word for "friend." Campers with disabilities participate with their brothers, sisters, or friends in a summer week of camp or special weekend camps held throughout the year. Activities are the same as offered in the summer camps, but in addition, this program provides disability awareness and a better understanding of those with special needs.

Specialty Camps
We work with various organizations to provide camping opportunities for special populations, such as young adults with disabilities from ages 18 to 35.

These camps are scheduled as funding becomes available.

Seniors Day Out
For more than 25 years, the Seniors Day Out program at Camp Aldersgate has been providing fun and fellowship, as well as the opportunity for senior adults to enjoy nutritious meals, educational activities, exercise, guest speakers, Bible study, singing, arts and crafts, board games, fishing derbies, holiday and birthday parties and the opportunity to interact with one another.

Our Seniors Day Out program meets every Thursday from September through May. This weekly program has over 40 participants from Central Arkansas. Participants begin arriving at 9 a.m. for refreshments and socialization. Programming begins around 10:15 a.m. with a devotional, exercise and the choice of participating in various activities. Meals are provided by CareLink. After lunch, seniors enjoy programs that range from educational topics to entertainment. The Seniors Day Out program adjourns at 1 p.m. and transportation is provided to certain areas of the city.
